Definition of the Week: DAS

Distributed Antenna System (DAS)  A network of spatially separated antenna nodes connected to a common source via a transport medium - typically coax or fiber optic cables - that provides wireless service within a geographic area or structure. We have been seeing much more interest in this type of system within the last 6 months. I think mainly because of many more people using smart cell phones and the much higher use of pad computers that use a cell wireless radio system. A lot of folks are looking for ways to enhance or n some cases get a signal at all in side buildings and structures like stadiums and shopping malls. DAS systems help to accomplish that. I receive updates from Superior Essex's Linked In site that many times has interesting topics. This weeks was courtesy of Tom Emeck, Enterprise Solutions Specialist at Superior Essex.
